Five Tulsa Startups to Keep an Eye On

Tulsa Startup Series is one of Tulsa’s most popular pitch competitions. It’s a great opportunity for startup founders to get in front of an audience and win a little cash to move their ideas forward.  The winner of each bi-monthly live pitch walks away with $2,500, a three-month 36 Degrees North membership and a business mentor. April’s competition focused on physical products. Here’s a recap of the five finalists who took the stage this month. (Scroll to the bottom of this page to find out who won!)

   

DisMe Shop
Chris Clark and Alayna Aguilera are the creators of DisMe Ears, magnetic accessories that can easily attach to any headwear without the need for glue, headbands, pins, etc. As huge Disney fans, the couple says they wanted to create an accessory that could add a little magic to  any outfit.

   

Ghostand
Ghostand, created by Alex Schneider, is an ergonomic, two-tier, portable standing desk made entirely of cardboard. The desks can hold over 90 pounds and allow users to easily switch from standing to sitting.They are significantly cheaper than traditional standing desks and a great option for companies looking for new ways to keep employees comfortable and focused at work. (BONUS: You can also customize the Ghostand with your company logo.) These desks are also customizable with logos.

   

My “Buddy” Towel
My “Buddy” Towel was created by Angie Myers, a mom of six who wanted her kiddos to be dryer and warmer faster after bath time. She developed a towel and onesie hybrid that makes drying off more fun for kids and less hectic for parents. They are 100 percent cotton, and currently come in three colors— gray, pink and green. All you do is slip it on, zip it up and go!

   

Okie Dope Soaps
Candace Martino, founder of Okie Dope Soaps, is a licensed esthetician who customizes all-natural, artisan soaps for individuals with skin sensitivities or allergies. She has also has some cool collaborations with companies like Ford’s Barber Shop and local breweries who actually requested a soap containing their signature IPA!

   

Tropical Origins
Fallon Laine’s company, Tropical Origins, makes innovative, botanical-infused hair care products for all hair types. For people who are conscientious about what they put in their hair, she has created shampoos and conditioners with strictly organic and all-natural ingredients. Her goal is to get her products into local natural grocers and markets.

   

**The winner of the Tulsa Startup Series Physical Product Live Pitch is My “Buddy” Towel! Next up for them will be to compete in the Tulsa Startup Series Demo Day competition in November for a chance to win $15,000 and a year-long 36 Degrees North membership. The Myers family says they plan to use the prize money and resources to grow their business and increase production.
