Q&A with Levi State

Where are you from and how did you end up in Tulsa?
I am from a small town located in south east Iowa called Oskaloosa. I grew up there and graduated from a small private college by the name of William Penn University where I studied Sociology and Human Services. I helped pastor a church for about five years before moving to Tulsa in 2015 to attend Victory College, a practical ministry training institution. Since graduating I have worked various jobs in the non-profit sector. I am excited to see how I can grow and add value to the work here at 36N.

What’re your favorite things to do in your free time?
I can usually be found doing one of three things; reading, catching up with friends, or drinking coffee. If any of those three things happen to intersect with each other is when i feel most satisfied. I also love to explore our city, finding new places and new people.

   

Favorite local restaurants?
Antoinette’s (Sunday brunch- polenta and poached egg), Hodges Bend (Japanese cold brew), Umbuetos Pizza (slice of double pepperoni), Stone Horse Cafe (whatever the special is- IT’S ALL AMAZING!)

If you were to start your own business, what would it be and why?
I started a small chemical-free, in home cleaning company earlier this year. It was a way for me to help busy families provide save and clean homes (purencleantulsa.co). I have another business idea that’s based in helping people fundraise for short-term missions trips while meeting the very real needs of their community. This business venture is very compelling to me as I am committed to helping people both domestically and internationally.

   

Favorite memory of 2017 so far?
My god daughter was born. She is beautiful, healthy and pretty perfect!

What song would you sing at Karaoke Night?

If you could splurge a whole paycheck on any store, which store would it be?
WEST ELM- one of everything please!

What are three things you would take with you on a deserted island and why?

• My Dog- Crimson (Standard Poodle) - He and I love to go on adventures, he is after-all man's best friend.

• Amazon Kindle- I would love to have all my books with me (Bible, CS Lewis, Bonhoeffer, Nouwen, etc)

• Hammock- I literally love my hammock, I always travel with it. I am always to catch a few zzzz if the moment presents it’s self.

   

What characteristics do you most admire in others?
Selflessness. Gratitude. Sense of Humor. Leadership.
